But sometimes, when it's full moon and all the signs are good, I enjoy trying to animate some silly scenes. Please let me introduce you my new little pièce de résistance: "Pepper"

Director / Animator, @coco_di_bongo , shared a bit about the process of making "Pepper" :
"For "Pepper" I had a clear vision of my character and technics I wanted to use.
I was not sure about the colour so I made some research.
Which one do you prefer?
Do I have to rebuild everything?
I had to cut in paper many hands and objects. I love this part! I enjoyed putting some highlights with color pencil.
And my assistant has been always all eyes if everything were all good.
I shot on a green screen all the different elements.
I struggled with a tiny cable which had the wonderful idea to come in front of my lens. Unfortunately, I didn't see it on my preview screen on Dragonframe and I had to redo all the frames again.
C est la vie !
Finally, I gave all my files to my kindly husband/coworker/FXArtist Germain Vaudry Ferrando who put all things together and voilà!
I hope you liked it!"

My pack can weigh a lot because I never know what I'm going to animate, so 10lbs of clay and industrial scissors get considered "essential."

Zero waste, minimal editing."

"Hi everyone! I'm Elliot Lobell. Originally from Queens, NY and currently based in Jersey City, NJ, I am a stop-motion filmmaker, illustrator, and toy artist!
I've been working in the animation and film industry since 2011 on a wide variety of projects, from commercials, to short films, to feature films and beyond!
My personal work often involves some sort of weird, friendly monster (usually made of felt, foam, or some combination of the two)
In my free time, I can usually be found in my studio making puppets or taking part in a staring contest with my cat, Algernon."

"I had a ton of fun animating these two drastically different puppets. The big purple yeti was a character I've been drawing different versions of for years, so to get to finally build and animate him for this little short film was a dream come true. He was a bit of a challenge though, because of his flimsy armature (his arm broke during the very last shot!)
The little candy puppet was by far the simplest puppet I've ever made (just some wire and magic sculpt) but even in his simplicity, I feel like he has so much character!"

2:04 Rocket Launch
"An unexpected rocket launch 🚀"
Animation Wild Card presents, Nhi Nguyen aka @_tigrin :
"Hi! I'm Nhi, a stop motion animation lover living in Saigon, Vietnam.
I love experimenting ways of making things move and playing with different materials.
Just been a short time in this playground but animation has brought me a lot of joy. It forced me to slow down to observe the movements and listen to the sounds around me (to get ideas and references), it also connected me with many new friends.
So I'm super excited to dig deeper into the field!"

"I was learning how to animate smoke and this short came out as my homework.
At first a rocket was about to launch but then I wanted to make a surprise and let the house go instead. I was quite happy with this funny result.
Hope you enjoy my process!"

"Ordinarily Invisible is a recreation of what it would mean to have your life in a transparent world and sometimes forgetting that the "material objects" exist while you try to get through an ordinary day, stumbling and hitting yourself with the "nonexistent"...Like a closed transparent door."
—
Director / Animator @Madoso , shared a bit about the process of making "Ordinarily Invisible" :
"My character is kinda heavy so it was a little complicated to keep him floating in place all the time.
It was quite a challenge to "mime" his way throughout his world but had to rely a great deal to postproduction and sound effects for creating the environment.
The water was the part that turn out to be easiest to create, with some silicone bars and a glue gun but quite laborious to animate."

"This was inspired by my uncle, who growing up, would babysit me often. That always came with (most of the time) watching his favorite movies and cartoons - which I definitely believe helped to lead me down an animation and film loving pathway. He loved watching wrestling and now tells me stories about how I used to imitate them - yes Macho Man for sure...in recent years, he's been fighting memory loss, so I hope I can bring back those good times when he sees this."

Animator / Creator, @mawisaaaart98 , shared a bit about the process of making "Macho Baby Smackdown" :
"My workspace is in my bedroom. I work off my Wacom one, connected to my laptop and I used Toon Boom Harmony to create this short. I work best when I have a clear head, so I ended up completely changing my schedule where I started going to bed by 8pm, waking up at 3am and working until I had to start getting ready for work. Sounds crazy, but whatever it takes to get creative time in!!
I haven't animated like this in awhile, and I was definitely challenged by it. Getting it done was so satisfying and I can't wait to get going on more projects and improve!!"

"What moos me, the Woodlouse is part of a series of 4 animations I have created on May 2020. This episode is probably my favourite of this project because I got attached to the puppet. The woodlouse episode idea simply came from the fact that spring was back and with it : woodlice. It is a love and hate tribute to them."

Director / Animator, @suzie_b_animation , shared a bit about the process of making "What moos me, The Woodlouse" :
"On May 2020, with the lockdown, and its a lack of stimulation, I lived a creative wreck and I really was in need for a shock treatment. Luckily my city art council made a call for social media projects to support its artists. So I jumped in and pitched a series of 4 animations I would produce in 4 weeks.
At that point of the pandemic, the object that was sparking the most joy to me (and still my studio favourite thing) was my moo box, so it became the starting point. In the end the animations are more or less related to it, but a title was born and the sound design had a line. The title is also related to the short « Ce qui me meut » from Cédric Klapisch, from which the project inherited the concept of multiple « studies ».
It has been a challenge each week to come with a concept I like in time to get the puppets ready and the animation done for the end of the week. I haven't slept a lot during that month and it was great ! It was a marathon that really got me back on track!

Animation Wild Card presents, Alice Thibault aka @alice_makes_stopmotion :
""Hi, I'm Alice from Paris.
Animation Wild Card wrote me a few weeks ago to ask if I wanted to be a part of the episode 13, and I accepted gladly :)
I used to work as a layout graphic designer for Disney magazines when, one day, I decided to finally leave everything behind and try my luck in stop-motion animation.
I'm totally new at this, the only experience I had before the short movie "Une Fleur et Deux Poussins" ("One Flower and Two Chicks") - seen in the clip for episode 13 - was a short I made for my diploma about 10 years ago (Link in Bio!) I love the real, tangible feel of puppets actually moving, with all their imperfections and textures. You can't duplicate that with 2D or CGI animation."

"The idea of "Une Fleur et Deux Poussins" started as a joke by my former roommate Pierre, in the early days of the first covid lockdown. Pierre helped me develop the story and my other roommate, Fred, who is a musician, did the sound design and composed the music.
I discovered a lot of technics during the process, and learned from the many mistakes I made, by realizing a whole animation project by myself from the beginning to the end. I think my favourite part was the making of puppets and props."

"Keep your friends close. Keep your snacks even closer!"
Animation Wild Card presents, Courtney Johnson aka @courtneyanimates :
"Hi, I’m Courtney!
I started experimenting with stop motion animation over the pandemic as a means of creative expression. Storytelling has always been a passion of mine, and one of my favorite aspects of stop motion is its ability to make the fantastical worlds in the stories we tell come to life. Designing and fabricating those worlds and the characters that live in them is my favorite part of the process. "

Animator / Creator, @courtneyanimates , shared a bit about the process of making "Snack Time" :
"My initial inspiration for this short was the concept of a character with a “tummy tv”.
For me, character is usually the starting point to a story, and it was easy to imagine all sorts of situations arising from a character with such a distinctive feature. I wondered, “What’s the worst thing that could happen to someone with a tv on their stomach?” It seemed like not being able to hide that you stole someone’s snack would be a pretty unfortunate side effect!
While story development and fabrication were some of my favorite parts of the process, I wanted to challenge myself to incorporate some top-down animation and try color keying for the first time. The tummy tv seemed like the perfect place to bring in both of those elements with everything flattened down and simplified into two dimensions."
