"This is a film made in quarantine from March until July 2020. I live and work in Richmond, Virginia. I used to do a lot of stop motion, but now love the ease and flexibility of 3D. My friend and fellow animator, Maxwell Sorenson (@maxwellsorensen) made the soundtrack. Check him out, he's a beast!

Ride your bike and eat your vegetables! Trump is an idiot. "

Zack Williams

Animator/Creator, @drzakko, shared a bit about the process of making "Scarabée Végétarién" :⠀
⠀
"I like to work in all stages somewhat simultaneously on personal projects. Nothing is ever quite "done." Things more or less go from my sketchbook doodles, to photoshop sketches, to 3d models, to light and render. However, I think the real magic happens when you try things on whims. It's always important to have the "meat" the "bones" of what you're trying to accomplish solid. That's like 80%. The other 20 is the special sauce, the extra layer of icing, and in this case the glitter. I thought I was done with the film for a week, when i randomly had the particle idea, went and played for a bit in After Effects, and caught myself saying, "this is better than the whole film." With that little whim of an idea, I made the film feel more complete, and a whole lot more magical."

Animation Wild Card presents, @stejeda0 :

"Sarah is a stop motion animator and fabricator living in Los Angeles. She has worked on multiple television shows, including Robot Chicken, Crossing Swords, and Gloop World, as well as different commercials and films. She is constantly fabricating puppets of her pets, and sewing them costumes that they probably hate wearing. In her spare time, she likes to roller skate, binge watch The Office, and play “Don’t Eat That!” with her dog Humphrey."

Sarah Tejeda

Director / Animator @stejeda0, shared a bit about the process of making Dinner Bell:⠀
⠀
"My process:⠀
So, I fabricated these puppets a while ago, but finally had the time (and the push!) to actually animate with them. The concept is based on my two sweet, loud, troublemaking guinea pigs named Pancake and Waffle. They would squeak at me all day and night if their food bowl was even slightly empty, along with many other (often loud and destructive) quirks. I have a small set up in the storage room in my garage, and I shot and edited this project there. The props are all actual props from my guinea pig’s cages (but the poop is fabricated, don’t worry). My boyfriend’s very talented daughter composed the title music for me, and it was so fun to collaborate with her and listen to her work out the music on the piano. Pancake and Waffle have given me so much silly material, that I hope to continue animating more of their personality quirks in the future!

Animation Wild Card presents, @kindclutter :
"kindclutter here once more. thanks for watching my ideas. some make sense & others don’t; just like the inventor’s ideas in my cartoon. here are a few that i’ve thought through today:

ant farms for moles so you can keep them at home. it wouldn’t be sad to see them dig behind glass if you baked for them often enough. you could install curtains for them to operate from inside so they could have their privacy. since they are mammals, they may grow smarter & eventually be able to dig out words in cursive so they can ask you to raise the temperature in the house.

my next idea involves crows, crumbs, & fashion. if you ever wanted to cause excitement for epaulettes you had created for crows, you could leave a line of scone crumbs on the sidewalk near the store you are selling them. that way, when other birds look over, it would appear there is a long queue leading around the block for bird epaulettes. the line will only last a few seconds but for the passersbird who notice it, it may make them momentarily curious. a possible limitation for this idea is that one crow might be able to peck all the crumbs herself if the other crows are busy elsewhere with a walnut.

instead of a picture of what i look like, here is a photo of a mandrile who might miss you. she wouldn’t tell me if she actually misses you but she insisted with a sheepish smile that i include the photo.

Animator/Creator, @kindclutter , shared a bit about their process of making "inventor" :⠀⠀
⠀⠀
"i’ve included some of my animation cels from “inventor”. i draw on the front & paint on the back to keep my paint from blending with my marker. this is helpful when i create my cartoons. my favorite part of making cartoons is creating the sounds. here are 3 pictures of some of my noisemakers for “inventor”. see if you can guess where each one pipes up in the film. the 1st one requires some explanation; it is the whistle piece from a kettle. you can simulate your tea being ready by putting it in front of your teeth like a sort of whistle baleen & letting out a lot of air. i prefer to play through it as if i were a polite kettle unsure if it should raise its voice. the warbling whistle makes for lovely vibrato. i hope you are well & i hope one day i can make you a warm scone.⠀

Animation Wild Card presents @_Threadwood ⠀
(individually known as @alexiseved & @sdaros):⠀
⠀
We're a married stop-motion animation team hailing from the North East (CT specifically) and currently located in Los Angeles, CA. We've been collaborating and working together for over 10 years!⠀
⠀
We've been a part of many stop-motion projects, big and small, and various studios here in the city. Scott has won an individual achievement Emmy for his animation skills, and we've both had team wins on 2 different Robot Chicken episodes as Animation Director and Art Director. Even with those freelance commitments, we've always prioritized working at home on personal projects that make us laugh.⠀
⠀
We spend a lot of our down time making weird faces/voices/dance moves at each other to try and make the other laugh - and sometimes they make for good shorts. This short series "Magical Cat" was inspired by a dumb song we sing to our cat when we get home from work (or if he emerges from another room after a long snooze). ⠀
⠀
We'd like to make it back to the North East and continue to share our sensibilities and sense of humor with anyone looking for a chuckle, or an eyeball-grabbing commercial.⠀

Alexis and Scott

Creators @alexiseved & @sdaros of @_Threadwood, shared a bit about the process of making Magical Cat Episode 5:⠀⠀
⠀
"This one was intended to be pretty simple to animate, but it was really difficult! It was the first time Magical Cat was going to interact with one of the flat set pieces. It didn't feel like it was gonna work during animation, but by using sticky wax to move the boot around to match the cat's movement, it turned out okay!" - Scott⠀
⠀
"I've shown a little bit of my process before, but never really shared an initial illustration of the boards that I use to work out the composition. I start with my drawing and use cardboard to rough in the scale and shape of the set pieces in space. I then use those cardboard pieces as templates to cut my 1/8" MDF to become the final props. The last bit is paint and setting them back up in front of the camera." - Lex

"theoneat-theothersideof-thezero entered by mere coincidence into the world of animation over a decade ago. Under the moto ‘i do what i can, hope people to watch’, adrian lives his animator life making independent pieces that come and go mostly unnoticed in the information ocean called the internet."

Behind the Scenes Breakdown

Director / Animator @aqueldelotroladodelcero , shared a behind the scenes compilation video of his rotoscope breakdown process and a description about the making of "I. FULL SPEED (total meltdown)" :

"HAPPENINGS THAT NEVER HAPPENED
We live our nightmares in a flesh... but do we actually LIVE them? This vivid, horrific and very short happenings overwhelm our senses, trigger our survival instinct and freak us out effectively... but then we wake up, we pull ourselves back into reality and feel once again safe and sound... but then again we are able to remember this things that happened... but never did. This web series is an attempt for nightmares to exist in some other way than just in the limbo of the unconscious. An entertaining shareable collection of bad dreams.

EPISODE I - FULL SPEED
Once i dreamt a dream of my face losing shape. As many of my particular nightmares, this took place in the bathroom, in front of a mirror. I was a passive spectator of my own facial disfigurement. That is why i decided to add some adrenaline to this bad dream with a biker vibe, where the wind would make it’s way through the melting skin in a more effective way.

NIGHTMARISH ANIMATIONS
Rotoscope is used to lead the audience into a ‘triggered awareness of reality’ through this 2D traces (and just seconds before something totally surreal and over the top happens next!)."

Animation Wild Card presents, John Sumner : ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
"John Sumner spent most of his young life as a journeyman, traveling across the country and working a ton of odd jobs. Ultimately, all of these experiences would come in handy as he settled into the entertainment industry in Los Angeles, CA. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
For the past decade, John has been primarily working as a Production Designer/Art Director/Builder for Film, Television, and Internet Content, with a focus on stop-motion.⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀
When John isn't working on professional jobs, you can usually find him carving tikis, drawing comics, and trying not to get his butt kicked by his wife and kids in Tae Kwon Do."

John Sumner

"This episode is an homage to the 80's arcade games and entertainment I indulged in during my youth. Most often, I would spend my weekends with friends in the quarter arcades at bowling alleys or driving ranges playing Galaga or Arkanoid. In no way are they ever going to make a "King Of Kong" type documentary about my skills, but I am proud to say that I beat all levels on Arkanoid. Actually, I'm not sure if that's something to be really proud of... or embarrassed at how many hours I poured into that game in order to achieve such a difficult task. Hmm, something to meditate on. Along with shining a spotlight on my past, I was also very interested in continuing my 2D animation studies by adding animated loops to show what Eli was doing in the video game. Even though they're really quick, I'm excited about how they turned out and how fun they were to make."⠀

"Hi! I’m Adam Taylor, a stop motion animator in Portland, Oregon. I love animating! I feel blessed to have had the pleasure of working in the great studios here in Portland, such as Laika, House Special, Bent Image Lab, Shadow Machine, and Big Giant, as well as some great ones around the country. I am currently working on Wendell and Wild! A real dream project. When not animating, I enjoy hanging out with my uber-talented wife Erin and our 2 goofy kids, making pizza, and traveling the globe. So many amazing cultures and great food to experience."⠀
